What we do

Ayurvedic Foods and Drinks at Dr. Anjali's Ayurveda Centre

At Dr. Anjali’s Ayurveda Centre, we believe that Food is the first medicine. Rooted in the ancient principles of Ayurveda, our kitchen serves nourishing meals that do more than satisfy hunger — they heal, balance, and energize.

India’s Herbal Abundance at Your Table

India’s natural diversity is a blessing — from the snowy Himalayas to tropical Kerala, every region offers its own Ayurvedic herbs, vegetables, and healing foods. These ingredients change with the seasons, ensuring nature’s rhythm is always part of our meals.

At Dr. Anjali’s Ayurveda Centre, we have access to a rich variety of these Ayurvedic treasures — fresh, local, and often grown in our own herbal garden. This allows us to craft sattvic meals that are not only wholesome and delicious but also personalized to your body type, season, and therapy needs.

Need of the Hour

Modern food habits are largely taste-driven, often prioritizing instant gratification over long-term health. Here’s how that shift impacts health, especially when it ignores the Ayurvedic concept of Shad Rasa:

1. Overemphasis on Certain Tastes

Modern diets are rich in Madhura (sweet), Lavana (salty), and Katu (pungent/spicy).

This leads to Kapha and Pitta imbalances, contributing to:

  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Inflammatory disorders

2. Neglect of Tikta (bitter) and Kashaya (astringent)

These tastes are crucial for detoxification, digestion, and cleansing the blood.

Their absence leads to toxin accumulation (Ama) and sluggish metabolism.
3. Craving Over Satiety

Processed foods are designed to trigger pleasure centers in the brain, not satiety.

This overrides natural hunger cues and encourages overeating.

4. Disruption of Mind-Body Balance

Excess stimulation of the taste buds causes mental restlessness, anxiety, and irritability—often seen in high-Pitta individuals.

5. Lack of Seasonal and Individual Consideration

Traditional Shad Rasa-based diets change with season (Ritu) and constitution (Prakriti).

Ignoring this adaptability makes the body vulnerable to disease.

Importance of 6 Tastes in Food

Shad Rasa Pradhana Aahara (Six-Taste Predominant Diet) is a foundational concept in Ayurveda, emphasizing the inclusion of all six tastes—Madhura (sweet), Amla (sour), Lavana (salty), Katu (pungent), Tikta (bitter), and Kashaya (astringent)—in daily meals for balanced health. Here’s why it’s important:

1. Holistic Nutritional Balance

Each rasa (taste) nourishes specific tissues (dhatus) and supports various bodily functions. A diet incorporating all six ensures balanced nourishment and avoids deficiencies.

2. Balances the Doshas

Sweet, sour, and salty pacify Vata.Bitter, astringent, and sweet pacify Pitta.
Pungent, bitter, and astringent pacify Kapha.

3. Enhances Digestion (Agni)

Balanced rasa intake improves digestive fire (Agni), ensuring optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients.

4. Prevents Cravings and Overeating

When all tastes are present, the body feels more satisfied, reducing unhealthy cravings and overeating tendencies.

5. Mental and Emotional Wellness

Each taste also influences the mind:
Sweet = calming, grounding
Sour = energizing
Salty = stabilizing
Pungent = stimulating
Bitter = detoxifying
Astringent = clarifying

6. Disease Prevention and Healing

Imbalanced taste intake can lead to doshic imbalance and disease. For example, excessive sweet and salty foods may lead to Kapha disorders like obesity or diabetes. A balanced diet helps in both prevention and management of chronic diseases.
